Mueller Seeking Re-election as County Attorney
Renee Ann Mueller, the current County Attorney for Washington County has announced that she will run for re-election next year. Mueller will be a candidate in the Republican Party primary.
The County Attorney's office in Washington County consists of the elected official as well as one assistant county attorney, John Winkelmann, a victim assistant coordinator/executive assistant , Suzy Blakey and two deputy clerks, Nicole Naumann and Daniel McCarthy. Mueller said she is very fortunate to have such an excellent group of individuals with which to work and the effectiveness of the office is contributable to everyone in the office.
"During my term we have seen an increase in juvenile cases, child protective cases and misdemeanor cases. We strive to seek justice in all the criminal cases and to protect the children in the CPS cases. We also seek to handle the criminal cases in a timely manner and our caseload turnover has repeatedly been in the highest percentile in the State. "
"We have seen an increase in domestic violence assaults. My office has been assisting the local law enforcement agencies to help make those cases stronger through the use of body camera evidence. We have also worked with the justice courts to assist in the procurement of magistrate orders of emergency protection for victims while the accused is in custody. Focusing Families in Hempstead has also worked with my office to help establish classes in the Washington County area for both victims and perpetrators to help stop the cycle of abuse."
The office also advises the Commissioner's Court , county officials and employees on contracts, road issues and other civil matters involving the County. "We are pleased to enjoy a good working relationship with all the County officials-elected and appointed and the law enforcement agencies in our area."
Mueller brings to the office over 25 years of prosecutorial experience to the office along with experience in civil and family law matters. She has served as Washington County Attorney, District Attorney for the 21st Judicial District, and assistant district attorney as well as operating a private practice. Mueller is a lifelong resident of Washington County as well as a property owner in the County. She is a graduate of Brenham High School, Blinn College, Texas Lutheran College and South Texas College of Law in Houston. She is active in the Fortnightly organization and the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library capital campaign, Washington County Chamber of Commerce, Blinn College Alumni and Friends Association, Faith Mission Board and a member of the planning committee for the Adaptive Sports Complex on the Brenham State Supported Living Center campus. Mueller is also a member of the Texas District and County attorneys' Association, Texas Association of Counties Core Legislative Group and the National District Attorneys Association.
"My goals are to continue to strengthen the good working relationships we have established so that we can continue to handle issues and cases as efficiently and effectively as possible. In every matter we handle we are part of a team with a common goal. "
